Accuretic is a medication that combines two active ingredients, quinapril and hydrochlorothiazide. Quinapril is an ACE inhibitor that works by relaxing blood vessels, while hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention. Accuretic is primarily used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).

How is this medication used?

Take Accuretic exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is usually taken once a day with or without food. Try to take this medication at the same time each day. Do not take in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. If you experience difficulty swallowing the tablet, consult your doctor for alternative methods or medications.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects of Accuretic include cough, dizziness, headache, fatigue, and electrolyte imbalance. Serious side effects can occur, such as allergic reactions, liver or kidney problems, and a decrease in blood pressure that is too low, especially when getting up too quickly from a sitting or lying position. Contact your doctor if you experience severe side effects or signs of an allergic reaction.

What are the potential interactions?

Accuretic can interact with other medications, such as lithium, digoxin, barbiturates, corticosteroids, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and certain blood pressure medications, including other diuretics and ACE inhibitors. Alcohol, narcotics, and sleeping pills can also enhance the blood pressure-lowering effect of Accuretic, leading to unwanted side effects. It's important to inform your healthcare provider about all the medications and supplements you are taking to prevent possible interactions.
