Advair Diskus

How is this medication used?

Patients are instructed to inhale the contents of one blister twice daily, morning and evening, approximately 12 hours apart. It is important to use Advair Diskus at the same times every day and not to use it more frequently than prescribed. Patients should rinse their mouth with water without swallowing after each dose to help reduce the risk of oral fungal infections.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects of Advair Diskus include headache, throat irritation, hoarseness, dizziness, nausea, fungal infections in the mouth, and muscle pain. More serious side effects can occur and should prompt immediate medical attention, such as worsening breathing problems, chest pain, tremors, fast or irregular heartbeats, and severe allergic reactions.

What are the potential interactions?

Advair Diskus can interact with various medications including beta-blockers (used for blood pressure), diuretics, MAO inhibitors, antidepressants, and other drugs that contain long-acting beta agonists or corticosteroids. Alcohol and certain medical conditions may also influence the effectiveness and side effect profile of Advair Diskus. Patients should inform their doctor about all medications they are taking and any pre-existing health conditions.
