How is this medication used?

Atacand HCT should be taken by mouth, usually once daily with or without food as directed by your doctor. It is important to take this medication exactly as prescribed and to continue taking it even if you feel well. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

What are the possible side effects?

Possible side effects of Atacand HCT include dizziness, lightheadedness, blurred vision, dry mouth, or upset stomach. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Serious side effects may include fainting, muscle weakness, unusual change in the amount of urine, signs of infection (such as fever, chills, persistent sore throat), easy bruising/bleeding.

What are the potential interactions?

Atacand HCT can interact with several types of drugs such as lithium, drugs that may increase the level of potassium in the blood (such as ACE inhibitors, ARBs, aliskiren), birth control pills/patch/ring, and other drugs that may affect the kidneys or cause dizziness. Alcohol and certain sedatives can also intensify dizziness and lightheadedness. It is important to inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you use, including prescription, over-the-counter medicines, and herbal products.
