Budesonide / Formoterol Inhaler

How is this medication used?

To use the budesonide/formoterol inhaler, remove the cap and shake the inhaler well for 5 seconds. Exhale fully, put the mouthpiece in your mouth, and press down on the inhaler to release the medication while slowly breathing in. Hold your breath for about 10 seconds, then exhale slowly. If a second inhalation is prescribed, wait about half a minute before repeating the procedure. Rinse your mouth with water after use to prevent oral thrush.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects include throat irritation, headache, nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, cold symptoms, and muscle or bone pain. More serious side effects can include increased blood pressure, decreased bone density, changes in mood or behavior, eye problems, and slower growth in children. Using a long-acting beta-agonist such as formoterol may increase the risk of asthma-related death.

What are the potential interactions?

Budesonide/formoterol may interact with drugs that affect heart rhythm, certain antidepressants, beta-blockers, diuretics, and some antifungal and antibiotic medications. It's important to tell your doctor about all medications you're taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements, to avoid potential interactions.
