Corlanor (ivabradine) is a heart medication that works by affecting the heart's electrical activity in order to slow the heart rate. Corlanor is used in certain people to help decrease the risk of hospitalization when symptoms get worse and to help improve the ability to exercise. It is specifically indicated for patients with chronic heart failure.

How is this medication used?

Corlanor is typically taken twice a day with meals. The dosage depends on your medical condition, response to treatment, and other medications you may be taking. It's important to follow your doctor's instructions carefully and not to take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects of Corlanor include bradycardia (slow heart rate), hypertension (high blood pressure), atrial fibrillation, and luminous phenomena (seeing halos or bright lights). Less common side effects can include dizziness, fatigue, headache, and nausea. Contact your doctor if you experience significant or persistent side effects.

What are the potential interactions?

Corlanor can interact with other medications and should not be taken with strong inhibitors of CYP3A4 (such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, nefazodone, ritonavir, nelfinavir, clarithromycin, telithromycin, and voriconazole) as they can increase the level of Corlanor in the blood to dangerous levels. St. John's wort should also be avoided as it can decrease Corlanor levels. As always, tell your doctor about all the medications you take, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
