Jalyn is a combination medication used in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men with an enlarged prostate. It contains two active ingredients: dutasteride, which prevents the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) - a hormone involved in the development and growth of the prostate; and tamsulosin, which relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate.

How is this medication used?

Take Jalyn exactly as prescribed by your doctor, typically once a day about 30 minutes after the same meal each day. Swallow the capsule whole and do not crush, chew, or open it.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects of Jalyn include dizziness, weakness, decreased libido, ejaculation disorders, and impotence. Other side effects can include allergic reactions such as swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, and serious effects like prostate cancer. Inform your doctor if you experience any severe or persistent side effects.

What are the potential interactions?

Jalyn can interact with other medications, including cimetidine, warfarin, and other drugs that affect the liver enzyme CYP3A4. It should not be taken with other alpha-blockers or medications for erectile dysfunction without medical advice. Additionally, pregnant women should not handle the medication due to potential harm to a male fetus.
