Lumigan is a prescription medication used to reduce elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It contains bimatoprost as its active ingredient, which works by increasing the outflow of aqueous fluid from the eyes to lower pressure.

How is this medication used?

Lumigan is typically applied once daily in the evening to the affected eye(s). It is important to follow the instructions provided by your healthcare provider. Wash your hands before use. Tilt your head back, pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket, and place a drop into this pocket. Close your eyes for 2 minutes and press gently on the inside corner of the eye to prevent the medication from draining out. Try not to blink or rub your eye.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects of Lumigan include eye redness, growth of eyelashes, itching, irritation, and dryness of the eyes. More severe side effects may include changes in eye color, sensitivity to light, and vision changes. If you experience any severe side effects, you should contact your healthcare provider immediately.

What are the potential interactions?

Lumigan may interact with other eye medications, especially those containing prostaglandins. Using Lumigan with other prostaglandin analogs can increase the risk of side effects. Inform your healthcare provider about all medications and supplements you are currently using to avoid potential interactions.
