How is this medication used?

To use the Pulmicort Flexhaler, twist the cover and lift it off to reveal the mouthpiece. Hold the inhaler upright and twist the grip fully to the right and then fully to the left until it clicks, which means it's loaded with a dose of medication. Exhale away from the inhaler, place the mouthpiece between your lips, and inhale deeply and forcefully. Hold your breath for about 10 seconds, then breathe out. If a second dose is required, repeat these steps. Make sure to rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after using the inhaler to help prevent oral thrush.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects of Pulmicort Flexhaler include irritation of the throat, mouth dryness, cough, and hoarseness. More serious side effects, though rare, can include signs of oral thrush (a fungal infection in your mouth) such as white patches, sore throat, and worsening asthma symptoms.

What are the potential interactions?

Before using Pulmicort Flexhaler, it's important to tell your doctor about all medications you're taking, as it can interact with certain drugs. Specifically, medications that weaken the immune system, like other corticosteroids or immunosuppressants, and certain medications for fungal infections (such as ketoconazole and itraconazole) may increase the effects of budesonide and lead to more side effects.
