Travatan eye drops contain travoprost, a synthetic prostaglandin analogue. They are used to reduce elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

How is this medication used?

Instill one drop in the affected eye(s) once a day in the evening. Do not touch the tip of the dropper to any surface, as this may contaminate the medication. If using other topical eye medications, wait at least 5 minutes before applying them.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects include ocular redness, decreased visual acuity, eye discomfort, dry eye, and foreign body sensation. Pigmentation of the iris, eyelid skin, and eyelashes can occur. Eyelash changes such as increased length, thickness, and number of lashes may be reversible upon discontinuation.

What are the potential interactions?

Travatan eye drops can interact with other eye medications, especially those that contain thimerosal. It's important to wait at least 5 minutes before applying other eye medications. The effect on intraocular pressure or the known side effects may be increased when travoprost is used together with other prostaglandin analogues.
