How is this medication used?

Use Tresiba U100 Flextouch Prefilled Pen exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. It is typically injected subcutaneously once daily at any time of the day but at the same time each day. It can be injected in the thigh, upper arm, or abdomen. Rotate injection sites within the same region from one injection to the next to reduce the risk of lipodystrophy. Do not dilute or mix Tresiba with any other insulin or solution.

What are the possible side effects?

Possible side effects include low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), allergic reactions, injection site reactions, itching, rash, edema (swelling), and weight gain. Some patients may experience signs of low potassium levels like muscle pain or weakness, irregular heartbeat. Serious side effects may include severe hypoglycemia, heart failure in those taking certain medicines called TZDs (Thiazolidinediones) with insulin, and potentially life-threatening complications.

What are the potential interactions?

Tresiba U100 may interact with other medications, altering its effectiveness or increasing side effects. These medications include oral antidiabetic drugs, angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, disopyramide, fibrates, fluoxetine, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), pentoxifylline, pramlintide, propoxyphene, salicylates, somatostatin analogs, sulfonamide antibiotics, and certain antipsychotics.
