How is this medication used?

Basaglar is administered via subcutaneous injection once daily at the same time each day. Follow your healthcare provider's instructions on where on your body to inject Basaglar. Rotate the injection site within the area you chose with each dose to reduce your risk of getting pits in skin or thickened skin and skin with lumps. Do not administer Basaglar into a vein or muscle.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects of Basaglar include low blood sugar, allergic reactions, injection site reactions, body fat redistribution, itching, and rash. Severe side effects may include low potassium levels, heart failure in those taking certain medications, and severe allergic reactions. It is important to monitor blood sugar levels regularly as instructed by your healthcare provider.

What are the potential interactions?

Basaglar may interact with other medications, which can lead to altered blood sugar levels. Drugs that may increase blood sugar levels include corticosteroids, thyroid hormones, birth control pills, and diuretics. Medications that may decrease blood sugar levels include oral diabetes medications, insulin, blood pressure medications, and certain psychiatric medicines. Alcohol may either increase or decrease blood sugar levels and should be used with caution. Always inform your healthcare provider of all the medicines you are taking to properly manage your medication regimen.
