Benazepril

How is this medication used?

Take benazepril exactly as prescribed by your doctor, typically once daily with or without food. If you experience stomach upset, taking it with food may help. Do not take in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects of benazepril include cough, dizziness, headache, and fatigue. Serious side effects may include swelling of the face, extremities, eyes, lips, tongue, difficulty in swallowing or breathing (signs of angioedema), and liver problems indicated by yellowing of the skin or eyes.

What are the potential interactions?

Benazepril can interact with potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics, leading to high potassium levels in the blood. It may also interact with lithium, increasing lithium's blood levels, and NSAIDs, which may reduce its blood pressure-lowering effects.
