How is this medication used?

Climara should be applied to a clean, dry area of the lower abdomen or buttocks, avoiding the waistline. Users should not apply the patch to the breasts or skin that is red, irritated, or cut. The patch should be replaced once a week on the same day each week. Do not apply lotions, creams, or powders near the patch area as they may interfere with its adherence and effectiveness.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects of Climara can include skin irritation at the application site, headaches, breast tenderness, nausea, and menstrual irregularities. Serious side effects might include blood clots, stroke, heart attack, and an increased risk of breast or uterine cancer. Immediate medical attention should be sought if experiencing symptoms such as chest pain, sudden shortness of breath, unusual vaginal bleeding, or jaundice.

What are the potential interactions?

Climara may interact with other medications, including thyroid medications, warfarin, some antibiotics and antifungals, and certain seizure medications. It can also interact with grapefruit juice. Patients should consult their healthcare provider about all medications they are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements, to avoid potential interactions.
