How is this medication used?

For gout attacks, colchicine is usually taken at the first sign of pain, followed by another dose one hour later if instructed by your doctor. For prevention of gout or FMF, it is taken regularly, as prescribed. The dosage depends on your medical condition, kidney function, and response to treatment.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Rare but serious side effects may include muscle pain or weakness, numbness or tingling in the fingers or toes, unusual bleeding/bruising, severe weakness, fever, or signs of infection. If you experience any of these severe side effects, seek medical attention immediately.

What are the potential interactions?

Colchicine can interact with many medications including certain antibiotics, cholesterol-lowering drugs, and antifungal medications.
