Cosopt
Cosopt is a prescription eye drop used to lower elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension, when concomitant therapy is appropriate. It is a combination of two drugs, dorzolamide hydrochloride, a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, and timolol maleate, a beta blocker.
How is this medication used?
The usual dosage is one drop in the affected eye(s) two times daily. Wash hands before use. Do not touch the tip of the eye dropper or place it directly on your eye. Avoid contamination. Wait at least 10 minutes before using any other eye drops your doctor has prescribed.
What are the possible side effects?
Common side effects include burning or stinging in the eyes after applying, taste alterations, dry eyes, and blurred vision. More serious side effects can include allergic reactions, respiratory problems, or heart-related issues in predisposed patients.
What are the potential interactions?
Interactions may occur with oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, high doses of aspirin, beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, and medicines affecting blood pressure. Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking to avoid potential interactions.
