How is this medication used?

Before using NovoLog FlexPen, read the instructions provided by the manufacturer. Check the insulin appearance, it should be clear and colorless. Prime the FlexPen before the first use by turning the dose selector to 2 units and pressing the dose button until insulin appears at the needle tip. To inject, turn the dose selector to your required dose, insert the needle into your skin as instructed by your healthcare provider, and push the dose button until the dose counter returns to 0. Hold the needle in the skin for 6 seconds to ensure the full dose is delivered.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects include reactions at the injection site, such as redness, swelling, and itching. Other side effects may include low potassium levels, weight gain, and in some cases, severe, life-threatening allergies. It's important to monitor for signs of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) such as sweating, shaking, fast heartbeat, and hunger.

What are the potential interactions?

NovoLog FlexPen can interact with other medications, altering blood sugar levels. Drugs that may lower blood sugar levels and increase the risk of hypoglycemia include other diabetes medications, ACE inhibitors, and disopyramide. Medications that may raise blood sugar levels and reduce the effectiveness of NovoLog FlexPen include corticosteroids, thyroid hormones, and beta-blockers. Always inform your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking to avoid potential interactions.
