How is this medication used?

Clean the affected area with mild soap and warm water, and rinse thoroughly. Gently dry by patting or blotting with toilet tissue or a soft cloth before applying the product. Apply to the affected area up to four times daily, especially at night, in the morning, or after each bowel movement. For rectal use only. Do not insert into the rectum using fingers or any mechanical device or applicator.

What are the possible side effects?

Some possible side effects include mild rectal irritation, burning, or stinging. If the condition worsens or if bleeding occurs, stop use and consult a doctor. Serious allergic reactions are rare but seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction such as rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.

Preparation H Ointment is not expected to interact with other medications, as it is applied topically and minimally absorbed into the bloodstream.
