Vimovo
Vimovo is a prescription medication that combines naproxen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), with esomeprazole magnesium, a proton pump inhibitor. It is used to relieve symptoms of arthritis, such as inflammation, swelling, stiffness, and joint pain, and to protect against stomach ulcers in patients at risk of developing ulcers from NSAID use.
How is this medication used?
Vimovo should be taken exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. It is typically taken twice daily, at least 30 minutes before a meal. Swallow the tablets whole with water; do not split, chew, or crush them.
What are the possible side effects?
Common side effects of Vimovo include headache, diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain, gas, heartburn, and constipation. Serious side effects may include an increased risk of heart attack or stroke, gastrointestinal bleeding, kidney damage, and liver problems. Contact your healthcare provider if you experience any severe or concerning symptoms.
What are the potential interactions?
Vimovo may interact with certain medications such as anticoagulants (blood thinners), other NSAIDs, corticosteroids, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), and diuretics. Alcohol and smoking can also increase the risk of stomach ulcers. It is important to inform your healthcare provider about all medications and supplements you are taking.
