Dorzolamide/timolol is a combination eye medication used to reduce intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It combines two active ingredients: dorzolamide, a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, and timolol, a beta-blocker. This combination works by decreasing the production of fluid within the eye, leading to reduced eye pressure.
How is this medication used?
Before using dorzolamide/timolol, wash your hands thoroughly. Tilt your head back and pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Hold the dropper above the eye with the tip down. Look up and away from the dropper and squeeze out a drop. Close your eye and press your finger to the corner of your eye (near the nose) for about 1 minute to prevent the liquid from draining down your tear duct. Use the medication exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, typically twice a day.
What are the possible side effects?
Common side effects of dorzolamide/timolol include a bitter, sour, or unusual taste in the mouth, eye discomfort, dry eyes, blurred vision, and tearing. More serious side effects can include allergic reactions, chest pain, breathing difficulties, swelling, redness, pain, itching, or sensitivity to light.
